Digital Citizenship
What we did:

As a group, we chose to do a lesson on social media addiction. We first had a class discussion on what social media addiction is and different signs associated with it. After having a class discussion, we played a game. We had everyone in a circle and if the statement applied to them, they would step forward. The purpose of this game was for teachers to evaluate if they had a social media addiction. It was a surprise to most when they actually saw how much they used social media. After the game, we introduced an app that can track how often you use social media. This app is called Moment and can help limit your time on social media. We then assessed everyone's knowledge on social media addiction using Kahoot. You can find this assessment in the link provided below the picture. There you can also find a link to the lesson plan. This lesson aligns with the following North Carolina Digital Learning Standards:
-
Teachers will model and teach digital citizenship by the ethical, respectful, and safe use of digital tools and resources that support the creation of a positive digital school culture.

-
Teachers will use technology to make data more accessible, adjust instruction to better meet the needs of a diverse learner population, and reflect upon their practice through the consistent, effective use of assessment.

-
Examine how individuals interpret messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence beliefs and behaviors.

-
Use information accurately and creatively for the issue or problem at hand

-
Identify and ask significant questions that clarify various points of view and lead to better solutions.
